Thoughts on the forced headline copywriting

September 5, 2012 by bojan Leave a Comment

There is a huge debate on the web regarding the catchiness of your headlines. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking of great headlines, and I’ve tried using canned ideas out there provided by Copy Blogger and other marketing “gurus”.

My practice showed that when I used “canned” ideas, my click through rate, didn’t go up, in some cases it also went down. It’s a good idea to have premade headlines ready and avaialble, but the fact remains, if you used canned material, you will get the canned results.

What is the solution?

The solution to this problem is actually knowing your niche and being original. If you don’t flow with your headlines, it will be apparent that you are trying hard to impress. Also, more often than not, you won’t be able to attract, because you won’t be able to deliver.

And in this era of overproduction, taking too much time to create content is actually it’s killer.

What am I doing?

I am going to stick to my usual routine that I did so far. I am going to write great things and give them headline later. It might be boring, it might be great. But those people that read you, will focus on what you had to say.

Let’s not forget SEO… And how it can hurt your content, rather than bringing you the benefits. Traffic is not the only metric that you need to monitor.

I would way more love to have 10 qualified visitors to my page, that are actually going to buy something and put money in my pocket, than consistent 1000 visitors monthly, that aren’t going to buy anything.

It’s just a matter of your financial inteligence.
